The Latest from Lensbaby – 85mm, f/ 1.8

After the Velvet 56, Lensbaby has now revealed their Velvet 85mm f/1.8 lens. The Velvet series of lenses are known for their lustrous soft skin tones, and manual focusing. The Velvet 5 is along the same lines, with crispy photographs with an impressive bokeh, thanks to the fast aperture possible.

The Velvet 85 has a magnification ration of 1:2, for close up macro images. It has a 12 blade aperture system and a minimum focus distance of 9.5 inches.

Photographer Kevin Kubota recently reviewed the Velvet 85, and this is what he had to say –

“The Velvet 85 gives me the versatility of having a very sharp lens with a film-like color palette, and a beautifully soft portrait lens, all in one. The focal length is ideal for portraits and the glow is optically unique — something that is hard to replicate with software effects.”

Lensbaby is releasing the Velvet 85, in all the leading camera mounts including SONY. The lens will be made available to the public on July 11, at a price tag of 500 US$. It remains to be seen if Indian consumers will find this price tag a little too hefty.
